About Money Habits Lab

A small team, testing what actually works.

We look closely at everyday money habits and explain which ones hold up. That's the entire mission — no products attached.

Our story

Started from a repeated frustration.

Money Habits Lab began in Lausanne as a side project among finance writers who kept noticing the same generic tips repeated across the internet — "make a budget," "pay yourself first" — without much explanation of why some habits stick and others quietly fall apart within weeks.

We wanted a place that treats habit formation as seriously as the financial concepts themselves, explaining not just what to do but why it tends to work, or doesn't.

What guides us

Three principles behind everything we publish.

Always free

Every guide, checklist and note on this site is free to read and will stay that way. We do not gate content behind sign-ups or paid tiers.

Information, not advice

We explain how common money habits generally work in practice. We do not review individual finances or tell you what you personally should do.

No hidden incentives

Money Habits Lab does not accept sponsorships from lenders, brokers, apps or financial product companies. Nothing here is paid placement.

Based in Switzerland

Working out of Lausanne, writing for a wider audience.

Our editorial team is based in Lausanne, Switzerland. While some of our examples reflect the Swiss context, the underlying habits we describe — tracking, automating, reviewing on a schedule — apply broadly, and we keep terminology general wherever we can.

If something reads as specific to one country's system, we try to note it plainly within the article itself.

A note on scope: Money Habits Lab does not offer paid services of any kind, does not manage money on anyone's behalf, and does not provide licensed financial, legal or tax advice. Everything published here is general education. For decisions specific to your situation, speak with a qualified, licensed professional.
